Fast Funky Face Masks!

Here are some fast foodie- based blemish-busting face masks. If you prefer not to make it yourself then you should look for products with Kaolin(clay), tea tree oil, sulfur, camphor, lycopene (from tomatoes), or willow bark ( a source for salicylic aid) in their ingredient lists.

Now on to the masks:

~ Mash the pulp of a small piece of watermelon. Apply it to your entire face and leave it on until it tightens and the jucie dries (about ten minutes). Wash with warm water, then rinse with cool water.

~ Cut a tomato in half. Massage it on your face. Let it dry, then rinse. Don't apply to open pimples, as it may sting.

~ Grate an apple and mix it with 2 teaspoons of honey. Apply to a breakout area and leave it on for 15 min. Rinse with warm, then cool water.

~Soak a small piece of bread in milk. Lie down, place it on the pimple, and leave it on for twenty minutes.

~ Mix a squirt mint toothpaste (not gel) in your palm with a few drops of warm water. Dab on blemishes and leave on for five minutes. Rinse with cool water.

Color-Treated Hair!

Your hair is made of approximately 98% protein. When it's overprocessed by chemical treatments, the proteins break down and it becomes dry and brittle. For healthier hair color:

1) Look For semi permanent rather than permanent hair color- these use fewer harsh chemicals, which can rough up your hair.

2) Look for ammonia-free(or low ammonia) low -PPD dyes. Ammonia and PPD (p-phenylenediamene) help hair color stick to the hair shaft, but they can be irritating to the skin and dry out hair so use as little as possible.

3) Try vegetable based color or henna. Veggie based color doesn't last as long as conventional color, and it isn't easy to get a subtle look with henna, but they won't damage your hair. Veggie based hair color: Herbatint, Naturtint, Aveda Color Current Energized Gel Color, Light Mountain Natural Henna Hair color.

4) Last but not least if your hair is damaged, wash with shampoo for color- treated hair, use a moisturizing conditioner and give yourself a deep conditioning treatment once a week to help put moisture back into your hair.

Some Products for color treated hair: Paul Mitchell color protect re constructive treatment, L'oreal Vive Hi- Light Boosting Shampoo..

Bottom Drawer Beauty

To keep yourself looking fresh throughout the day- or to make the last minute transformation from day to night when you're heading straight from the office out on a date- stash these items in your bottom desk drawer:

- Concealer- to touch up the undereye area and any other spots (the area around the nose) or blemishes that need coverage.

- Powder, blotting papers, a mattifier or a shine stick- to tone down the 4 p.m. shine

-Blush and Lip tint- to give you back some color, especially if it's been fading under fluorescent lights.

-Toothbrush. toothpaste, and mini mouthwash-(self explanatory) stinky breath :)

-A mini bottle of rose water or mineral water to hydrate your skin.

-Eye Drops, especially if you get that bloodshot "Dawn of the Dead" look from staring at the computer screen.

-Lip Balm- for your crusty lips.

-Hand Cream to apply throughout the day- make it a habit nobody likes the look of dry ashy hands.

-A sample size jar of moisturizer to pat on areas that have been dehydrated by dry air

Tattoo

I Know this is a bit random but it has to do with your skin right? I've always wanted a tattoo but for several reasons I refrain. So0o.. recently I looked up on it.. Can anything go wrong when you leave your skin in the care of the tattoo artist? Is it just me or do they look a little to happy to stab you in the skin with a needle? ( I've seen my friend get one, which is probably another reason I have held myself) So now on to the info..

5 little tiny complications

1- Infection- Needles that aren't sterile can transmit infectious disease like hepatitis or even HIV.

2- Allergic Reactions- Reactions to the color used in tattoos are rare, but hey it can happen. Okay I admit this one is a little bit lame.. but hey it still counts!

3-Granulomas (dont you love this word)- Raised nodules that can form around foreign substances in the body such as tattoo pigments. (gross?)

4- Keloids- These are scars that can form from tattoo or from removal.

5- Complication with removal- Getting rid of a tattoo takes several treatments, and there is a risk of scarring.

# 4 and 5 have some really detailed pics.. if you know what I mean.. Dont check it out if your squeamish :)..

Beauty Myths II

Cutting your hair makes it grow faster.
Your hair grows at the roots, not the end. If your hair is short, you will notice it more when it grows, but that's about it. Of coarse getting regular trims keeps your hair healthy.

Sun exposure clears up acne.
When you tan, your acne may look less obvious, but tanned skin is drier and causes the skin to stimulate more oil, which can cause more pimples. Plus, many acne medications make the skin sensitive to the sun, and the interaction can make you break out or develop a rash.

Wash your hair twice when you shampoo.
Unless your hair is filthy, there's no good reason to wash your hair twice, and it may actually strip too many natural oils from your hair.

If it's a cloudy day at the beach, you don't need sunscreen.
The sun's damaging UVA and UVB rays penetrate the clouds, and they can still damage your skin.

You can make your pores smaller.
You can make your pores look smaller by plumping the surrounding skin with moisturizer or by using certain types of "pore refining" lotions or makeup. On the other hand, when a pore is clogged with a blackhead, bacteria, or dead skin, it can stretch and appear bigger until it's unclogged. But your pores are not like a door or window that you can open and shut.

Beauty Myths

I'm going to take a different approach I'm going to post more informative information as well as the regular makeup look and reviews here and there. Today I decided to post some Beauty Myths.

- Someone told me that if I use a ponytail, my hair can break and fall out.
Pulling your hair back really tightly every day can put stress on it, and it can break off. As long as you don't do this on a daily basis or use uncoated elastics or elastics with metal clasps you shouldn't experience breakage.

-French Fries, Chocolate, pizza, chips, and other foods make you skin break out.
Although these food aren't necessarily the best it hasn't been scientifically proven to cause breakouts. If these foods break you out then you probably should stay away or you may have allergies.

-Bad hygiene cause pimples.
Usually people with pimples tend to wash their face to frequently and to roughly. This can strip oil from he skin and cause your body to secrete even more oil to compensate leading to dry pimply skin!

-Lots of lather means that my shampoo is working better.
This doesn't necessarily mean its working better. It just means it may have extra foaming agents to make it lather but it isn't making your hair cleaner. It may not even be as gentle as a low lather shampoo.

-It's bad to mix different brands of skincare and cosmetics.
This is a marketing ploy that may have been started by a cosmetics exec to encourage loyalty to one brand. Sometimes it better to mix things up.

The next posting will probably be one of a similar nature with more beauty myths :)

Smokey Eye

I was bored today and had already done my makeup. Nothing special just winged eyeliner and mascara. I decided to play around with some makeup. I decided I would try my hand at a smokey look that involves black. I definitely needed the practice because for some reason whenever I try to use black idk what goes wrong maybe I use to much Idk. So I used a 217 and black e/s from the Coastalscents 88 matte pallete. The result was a lot nicer than I expected. The only negative? I was staying HOME!! lolz.. Does that ever happen to you? You have absolutely no plans what so ever and the makeup is flawless but as soon as you try to re- create it to go out it falls apart? I hate that lolz.. So i included a picture below. I used three colors black mostly a light shade of brown sort of like Soft brown from Mac. I also used a color that was close to my skin color for the inner corner. As a highlight I used a light shimmery color that resembles Stila Kitten. In a the picture it looks sort of grey in some ares I think it might be the lighting.. :)

Rimmel :)

*~Airy Fairy~*

So I was at CVS on the hunt for the perfect mascara which I think I have I finally found it but thats a whole different posting :). So while I was there I picked up a lipstick by rimmel called Airy Fairy 070. I blame this on Youtube because of the videos raving on this lipstick I had to get it. I agree with the videos it is a very nice lipstick. It is a mauve color when you look at it out of the package but once on it is a nice shade of like a frosty pink. The frost is slight so very suitable to a variety of skin shades. It suits my skin and I am a NC40.. It is so soft and creamy and has a slight sweet scent nothing to overwhelming. The packaging is nice and sleek. Staying power is decent but you do need to re apply every now and then. That isn't a con when the price is only $5.95!! Definite Steal!

Crazy for GaGa

So I bought the Lady Gaga lipstick..
I had seen many reviews on youtube stating how the color looks frightening which made me skeptical about purchasing it. As a swatch I think I can understand what the gurus were talking about. When applied I think it depends entirely on you. Honestly the color is FABULOUS :). I'm in love with it and I think it's very wearable. So the lipstick comes in the signature Viva Glam packaging black and red around the middle. Once you open it on the inside it has Lady Gaga's signature. I would describe the color as a Barbie pink. Once on it is very buildable and you can wear just one coat that give your lips a nice pinkish tint or build it up so you have bright pink lip. It is a Lustre and that being said it is extremely soft and creamy on the lips. Although one negative which isn't really a negative is, it really magnifies dry areas on the lip so exfoliating is a must! I am going to include a swatch as well as a picture on the lips. All in all i loveeeeee this lipstick.. :)
